Microwave Digestion Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry to Determine Mercury Level in Human Hair

  • Objective To establish a method to determine hair mercury by atomic fluorescence spectrometry after microwave digestion.

Methods Hair samples were prepared by microwave digestion and mercury contents in hair samples were determined by atomic fluorescence spectrometry.

Results The detection limit of this method for hair samples was 0.026 μg/L for mercury. The specification curve correlation coefficient was 0.999 5. The relative standard deviation was 1.89%-3.23%, and the average recovery ranged from 92.0% to 98.7%.

Conclusion Strengths of the study lie in the ideal experimental conditions and the accurate, sensitive, and simple method it finally built which applies to the detection of samples in large amount.
