Abstract:
Objective To investigate the distribution of serotypes and the resistance rate of Shigella in Minhang District of Shanghai, and to provide scientific basis for choosing proper antibacterial drugs and for Shigellosis prevention and control.
Methods The anus probe samples of diarrhea patients from intestinal disorders out-patient monitoring sites were collected between 2007 and 2009 for bacteria isolation, culturing and serotype identification. At the same time, antibiotic sensitivity test was performed by modified disk diffusion method.
Results A total of 251 strains of Shigella were cultured from 2007 to 2009,including 180 Shigella flexneri strains and 71 Shigella sonnei strains, while no other serotype of Shigella was found. The Shigella specimens presented a high rate of resistance to tetracyclin,sufisomezde/trimethylolpropane,ampicillin,rifampicin,and nalidixic acid, all greater than 76%;but a low rate of resistance to ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin. The two species had a striking difference in their resistant rates. The rate of resistance to gentamicin was increased from 2007 to 2009.
Conclusion The resistance rates in Shigella are high in the district studied, and the rates to part of the antimicrobial agents are increased from 2007 to 2009.More attention should be paid to the surveillance and control of such resistance.
