Abstract:
Objective To determine the changing of mortality from malignant tumors and the potential years of life lost (PYLL) in Pudong New Area of Shanghai from 1993 to 2007.
Methods Standardized mortality rate and PYLL were used to analyze the data of all-cause deaths for Pudong New Area from 1993 to 2007.
Results The crude death rate of malignant tumors increased from 174.88/100 000 in 1993-1995 to 219.34/100 000 in 2005-2007. After age-adjusted by world population, the mortality dropped from 130.40/100 000 to 107.45/100 000 correspondingly. The malignant tumor mortality of male was 1.56 times of female. In 2005-2007, the top 5 malignant tumors in male were cancers of lung, liver, stomach, colon and esophagus, while those in female were cancers of lung, stomach, colon, breast and liver.
Conclusion The malignant tumor mortality in Pudong New Area shows an upward trend from 1993 to 2007, which need further enhanced prevention and control.
