Abstract:
Objective To establish and evaluate the effect of a surveillance and alarm system monitoring clinic visits for abnormalities within Expo sites for public health security purpose.
Methods A surveillance system monitoring clinic visits for abnormalities within Expo sites was established by the means of risk assessment and expert consultation. Six syndromes including flu-like syndrome, gastrointestinal syndrome, fever with rash syndrome, fever with hemorrhage syndrome, central nervous system syndrome and jaundice-like syndrome were collected through the system from May 1st, 2010 to Oct 31, 2010.
Results The surveillance system was active and no outbreak of infectious diseases was detected from May 1st to Oct 31, 2010.
Conclusion The surveillance system monitoring clinic visits for abnormalities within Expo sites has been established and active in Shanghai Expo. It plays important role in disease prevention and early alarming of medical emergency.
