Abstract:
Objective To establish a detection method for hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) in workplace air by derivatization with absorbing liquid and liquid chromatography.
Methods Air samples were collected with impinger and absorbing liquid (tryptamine/dimethylsulfoxide) for derivatization. The HDI derivative concentration was detected by high performance liquid chromatography.
Results The method showed a good linearity within the range of 0.050-10 μg/mL with the regression equation& #375;=6.9& #215;106x-4.6& #215;104 and the correlation coefficient r=1.000.The limit of detection and limit of quantitation of HDI were 0.000 54 mg/m3 and 0.001 8 mg/m3 respectively when the sampling volume was 45 L.The absorption liquid could be kept for long time under normal temperature after sampling,as the degradation rate was less than 5% after 14 days.Other derivatives of isocyanates in workplace air did not interfere with the determination.
Conclusion The method is suitable for the routine monitoring of HDI in workplace air.
