Abstract:
Objective To evaluate drinking water quality using water quality index (WQI) in Pudong New Area,Shanghai.
Methods Water samples were collected from finished water, trunk pipes and secondary supply systems.Fourteen indices were selected for revised Canadian water quality index (WQI).Backward stepwise logistic regression analyses were performed for sensitivity analysis.
Results Disqualified samples were identified in all the sampling locations. The number of disqualified indices showed an impact to WQI with the highest degree.Ammonia, turbidity, and CODMn were the indices with the highest disqualified sample counts comparing to the relevant national standards, but iron, manganese,CODMn,and turbidity contributed most to WQI.The quality of drinking water samples sourcing from nearby rivers was the worst with significant disqualified index of ammonia.
Conclusion Canadian water quality index (WQI) provides an effective way to assess the quality of different water samples and is of significant value in water quality management.
