Knowledge of HIV/AIDS Privacy Protection among Medical Care Staff in Jing'an District of Shanghai

  • Objective To investigate the privacy protection related knowledge of people living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) among medical care staff in Jing'an District, and to provide evidence for the related policy making.

    Methods The privacy protection related knowledge among 180 medical care staff in the general hospitals of Jing'an District was collected by a structure questionnaire. Statistical analysis was executed by SPSS 11.5.

    Results Among the medical care staff investigated, 97.8% understood the core knowledge of AIDS, but did little about the PHA's privacy protection for 42.8% comprehended the Regulations on AIDS Prevention and Treatment (RAPT), in which they did good in restricting PHA information to their partners and relatives (87.2%) but not in releasing related information to various governmental agencies (28.33%).

    Conclusion Trainings on professional knowledge and legal knowledge on PHA privacy violation among medical care staff should be enhanced to improve the le gal rights protection status.
