Striving for a frst-class Chinese academic journal with a pioneering spirit-Report on work of the Fifth Editorial Board and the Editorial Offce of Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine

Abstract
Since the establishment of the Fifth Editorial Board of Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine (JEOM), the journal has continued its commitment to the principle of disseminating front-line domestic and international research achievements. The high quality of the journal cannot be achieved without the intensive work of the Fifth Editorial Board and the Editorial Office; the rate of fund-sponsored papers to total papers was more than 80%, and the rejection rate was up to 72.5%. Peer-review process was optimized and author guidelines were updated to greatly reduce publication cycle time; academic misconducts were strictly curbed throughout paper submission and revision steps to improve academic ethics and control paper quality. Diverse academic exchange activities were hosted to publicize JEOM in the filed of environmental and occupational medicine. JEOM website was updated to match modern aesthetics and accelerate journal development; JEOM official WeChat account was also opened to meet the requirements of fragmented reading in the Internet age. Both the structure of the Editorial Board and and the capability of the Editorial Office were improved to achieve sustainable journal growth. JEOM was included in many major domestic and overseas databases, and won various awards such as Excellent Journal of Eastern China, ranking high among the journals of the same field. Therefore, JEOM has played an important role in such subject areas as environmental medicine, occupational medicine, and even preventive medicine.
