Minutes of First Plenary Session of Sixth Editorial Board of Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine

  • The First Plenary Session of the Sixth Editorial Board of the Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine (JEOM) was held on August 19-21 2018 in Shanghai. Over 80 participants attended the meeting, including heads at Newspapers and Periodicals Management Office of Shanghai Municipal Press and Publication Bureau, Department of Science and Education of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning, and Shanghai Periodicals Associations and domestic and overseas editorial board members. The meeting summarized the achievements made by the Fifth Editorial Board and the Editorial Office in the areas of improving journal quality, boosting journal influence, distributing digital business in a full-scale way, and constructing talent teams of editorial board members and editors; read the Regulations for JEOM Editorial Board (revised) and modification explanations; introduced the selection criteria and composition of the Sixth Editorial Boards; announced the list of the Sixth Editorial Board members and offered letters of appointment to them. Facing the difficulties that Chinese authors preferentially select highprestige journals (mostly foreign journals) to publish their best research papers, Editor-in-chief Wu Fan gave her thoughts on the development of the journals, including 1) stepping up efforts to increase journal evaluation index; 2) making plans on solicited articles and featured issues; and 3) assigning editorial board members to each issue. Dr. Wu's thoughts sparked intense discussions on practical suggestions to improve journal quality and initiated positive responses from the members that they would actively contribute to the journal such as peer reviewing and commissioning articles. The meeting ended with many thoughtful suggestions.
