Abstract:
Objective To assess the applicability of Chinese version Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (CMQ) in shipbuilding industry.
Methods A total of 550 workers from a shipyard in North China filled in the CMQ. Split-half reliability and Cronbach'α coefficient were used to assess the CMQ's reliability. Construct validity and discriminant validity were used to assess the CMQ's validity.
Results The total Cronbach'α coefficient of CMQ was 0.86 and the coefficients of designed five dimensions were in the range of 0.48-0.84. The split-half reliability coefficient was 0.73. Thirteen common factors, including two independent factors, were identified, explained 64.10% of total variance, and reflected seven dimensions. The correlation coefficients of discriminant validity between each dimension (including static load, dynamic load, repetitive work, ergonomic environmental factor, frequency and fatigue, vibration, and computer operation) and total items were 0.83, 0.52, 0.48, 0.52, 0.72, 0.14, and 0.01, respectively. The correlation coefficients between each dimension (except vibration and computer operation) and total items were higher than those between dimensions. The correlation coefficients between any two dimensions were less than or equal to 0.4 except that between dynamic load and repetitive work (0.42).
Conclusion The reliability and validity of CMQ is fair to evaluate the work-related musculoskeletal disorders among shipbuilding workers in China after appropriate adjustment.
